Our Services

TTS is a creative agency that creates the space for stories to be told that are resonant and reflective of multi-ethnic Britain today.  We are interested in telling the unique story of the UK’s heritage: diverse, dynamic and multi-perspective. 

 

Our work covers both practice and policy and through our production hub – The Engine Room – TTS works and invests in the finest and home-grown, Black and British multi ethnic talent.

 

Our consultancy works collaboratively with a range of partners to influence the structural environment for this work to flourish in the long term.

 

With digital at its core, we distribute product and ideas to reach out to audiences.

Our Vision

TTS is committed to an inclusive, vibrant, diverse and equal cultural landscape.  We will contribute to and make a difference to the creative and cultural infrastructure through policy and practice, working collaboratively and seek opportunities to play and be playful with concepts and ideas around diversity, culture and creativity in modern 21st Century Britain.

We will achieve this vision by:

•Fostering a playful and inventive approach to creativity, innovation and diversity

•Pursuing mutually beneficial relationships

•Creating the space for artists and makers to make work that reflects and resonates with all our communities

•Learning, writing, presenting, sharing ideas and opportunities.

Our Aims

To redefine and revisit the heritage and creativity of the Black and British multi-ethnic cultural voice through a series of dialogues, projects and productions encouraging a national and international response

 

To create spaces for new work by 'home-grown' and Black and British multi-ethnic led work through co-commissions and talent development partnerships 

 

To explore the intersections of art form working at the cutting edge of diverse practice and with a range of artists, producers and partners

 

To play and be playful with concepts and ideas around diversity, culture and creativity in modern 21st Century Britain.

 

To reach out to audiences interested in this work and dialogue, regardless of background

 

To support the development of quality diverse creative product and talent, enabling exposure, production and presentation.

Our People

Jenny Williams, Executive Producer

 

Take the Space is a creative agency set up by Jenny Williams in 2006 with the aim of enabling artists from Black and British multi ethnic backgrounds to Take their Space – and tell their stories. At its core, TTS is committed to telling stories that are generally not seen and not heard – and finding spaces that connect people with each other. 

Along with commissioning partners, TTS has enabled opportunities for several hundred multi ethnic artists as well as facilitated talks, conferences, manifestos for change; through to producing, bid writing, and programme management.  Over the past 5-years, TTS has helped to raise over £3.5m for this work.

In 2007-9, Jenny was awarded a prestigious Fellowship on the Clore Leadership Programme and mentored by acclaimed playwright Kwame Kwei-Armah; is an accredited coach; a Cause4 Fellow, Cultural Fundraising and Philanthropy; an AIM Museums Enabler (2017/18) and was recently awarded an Elevate grant from Arts Council England in recognition of TTS’s contribution to the Creative Case for Diversity.

Before leading Take the Space, Jenny held numerous senior positions within the arts and public sectors including Head of Diversity, Arts Council England, National Office; Cultural Diversity Officer, Arts Council England South East; Education and Community Director The Tricycle; and Arts Development lead for Mid Sussex District and Wandsworth Borough Councils; as well as her first job in the arts as Fundraising Officer for English Touring Opera.
